Square Handheld

Handheld is Square’s answer to “the line is at the door and the register is buried.” Servers and floor staff take orders and payments on a device built for the job, not a consumer phone with a dongle. Omega helps you decide how many Handhelds you actually need versus a Register-plus-one mix.

  • Built-in barcode scanner
  • Pocketable restaurant POS
  • Shares tickets with the counter

Tableside orders that still hit the kitchen

Handheld is strongest when tickets need to land on a kitchen display or expo. Omega sequences Handheld with KDS so the line is not waiting on a half-installed stack.

  • Full-service and bar tabs
  • Line-busting at the door
  • Curbside and events
Square Reader compared with Handheld

Tableside without a consumer phone

A dedicated Handheld survives a Friday night better than a staff iPhone with a reader clipped on. Guests pay at the table, tabs stay with the server, and the bar is not waiting on someone to walk a card to a back terminal.

Retail that walks the floor

Scan, sell, and take payment in the aisle so a guest never abandons a basket to wait at a single register. Pair Handheld with Register or Terminal at the wrap desk for returns and cash.

Frequently asked questions

Is Square Handheld the same as Square Reader?
No. Reader pairs with your phone or tablet. Handheld is its own POS with a screen and scanner. Choose Reader for the lightest mobile kit; choose Handheld when staff should not depend on a personal device.
Does it work for restaurants and retail?
Yes. Handheld runs Square Point of Sale, including restaurant and retail modes. Kitchen display and online orders can still land in the same Square account.
Is this Square device included with processing?
Square publishes its own hardware pricing and software plans. Through Omega’s Square partnership, we help you choose the right device, confirm what is included, and complete onboarding. Do not assume Clover no-cost placement applies to Square.
Can Omega still offer Clover instead?
Yes. Square is an addition, not a replacement. If Clover, Union, a vertical POS, or a simple terminal is the better fit, we will say so and quote that path.
