Square Terminal

Terminal is the Square device most merchants picture when they say “just give me a modern card machine.” It prints receipts, takes tap and chip, and runs Square POS without pairing to a phone. Omega helps you use it as a primary station, a patio device, or a backup lane.

  • Standalone POS, no phone required
  • Built-in thermal printer
  • Hub for Ethernet when Wi-Fi is thin

Overview

Why operators pick Square Terminal

Square Terminal is a compact smart terminal with payments and a receipt printer in one device: counter, patio, or a second lane without a full register.

Terminal is the compact Square POS with a built-in receipt printer. Staff who want a modern card machine, not a dual-screen register, usually start here. Omega uses it as a primary station, a patio device, or a backup lane.

Often strongest for

  • Cafés & counters
  • Salons
  • Pop-ups
  • Second lane
  • Service businesses
  • Built-in receipt printer: no separate printer required for most setups
  • Contactless, chip, and magstripe in one compact body
  • Battery for cordless use, or keep it plugged in at the counter
  • Wi-Fi, with Ethernet available via Hub for Square Terminal

Built for how you actually sell

Square sets the product. Omega maps it to your floor, volume, and whether Clover or another system is still the better fit.

Standalone POS, no phone required

Terminal runs Square Point of Sale without pairing to an iPhone or iPad.

Built-in thermal printer

Receipts print from the same device that takes tap and chip.

Hub for Ethernet when Wi-Fi is thin

Optional Hub for Square Terminal adds a wired path. Confirm coverage before it is your only device.

Payments

Looks like a card machine. Runs a real POS.

Staff used to a traditional terminal pick this up fast, then get itemized tickets and Square software modes instead of a dumb swipe box.

  • Contactless, chip, and magstripe
  • Itemized tickets and reporting
  • Restaurant, retail, services, and beauty modes

Mix

One Terminal, or a Terminal-plus-Handheld floor

Use one Terminal as the only device, or mix it with Handheld for tableside and Register at the front. Omega will not push a Register if Terminal covers the shift.

  • Primary counter or second lane
  • Patio and pop-up with battery
  • Same catalog as the rest of your Square stack
Square Reader as a lighter alternative to Terminal

Compare

Reader is lighter. Register is heavier. Terminal sits in the middle.

If you only need tap and chip on a phone, start with Reader. If the counter needs two screens, look at Register. Terminal is the compact dedicated POS in between.

  • No phone required
  • Printer included
  • Hardware priced by Square

A full POS that still looks like a terminal

Staff who are used to a traditional credit-card machine pick up Terminal quickly, then get itemized tickets, reporting, and Square’s software modes instead of a dumb swipe box. That is usually the right jump for shops that do not need a dual-screen Register yet.

Frequently asked questions

Does Square Terminal need a phone or iPad?
No. Terminal is a standalone POS with payments and a printer. A Hub for Square Terminal is optional if you want Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi only.
Can I take it off the counter?
Yes. Terminal has a battery for cordless use and can sit on a patio, at a second station, or on a cart. Confirm Wi-Fi coverage before you make it your only device in a dead zone.
Is this Square device included with processing?
Square publishes its own hardware pricing and software plans. Through Omega’s Square partnership, we help you choose the right device, confirm what is included, and complete onboarding. Do not assume Clover no-cost placement applies to Square.
Can Omega still offer Clover instead?
Yes. Square is an addition, not a replacement. If Clover, Union, a vertical POS, or a simple terminal is the better fit, we will say so and quote that path.
